I grew up on Superman comics. They were 12 cents apiece, and they were read, not 'collected' in little sealed bags.
He was created by American Jerry Siegel and Canadian Joe Shuster in 1932, and began appearing in comics in 1938. He came to radio in 1940, and ran until 1951, voiced by Clayton Bud Collyer.
