CBS Radio Mystery Theater, which ran from 1974 to 1982(!) was an attempt to revive radio drama. It was hosted by E G Marshall, and presented original stories and adaptations of classics, quickly expanding its range to include comedy, horror, and sci-fi. At the end of every show, you would hear a creaking door, and E G Marshall would say "Until next time, pleasant ... dreams?"
